Ulverstone is a town on the northern coast of Tasmania, Australia on the mouth of the Leven River, on Bass Strait. Venture out of the city with trips to Gunns Plains Caves (in Gunns Plains) and Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park (Cradle Mountain, Dove Lake Circuit, & more). Melbourne to Ulverstone is an approximately 4-hour combination of flight and car. You can also drive. Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Explore Launceston's surroundings by going to Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre (in Beaconsfield), Mt George Lookout (in George Town) and Beauty Point (Seahorse World & Platypus House). Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Venture out of the city with trips to Spiky Beach Conservation Area (in Swansea) and Melshell Oyster Shack (in Dolphin Sands). Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Change things up with these side-trips from Hobart: Tasmanian Devil Unzoo (in Taranna) and Port Arthur Historic Site (in Port Arthur). There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, appreciate the extensive heritage of Battery Point Sculpture Trail, get curious at Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington.

Traveling by car from Coles Bay to Hobart takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and bus. In February, plan for daily highs up to 26°C, and evening lows to 14°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
