The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kyoto is known for historic sites, shopping, and classes. Your trip includes some of its best attractions: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, take a stroll through Gion, and take in the pleasant sights at Arashiyama.

Manila, Philippines to Kyoto is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. The time zone changes from Philippine Standard Time (PST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from Manila in December, things will get cooler in Kyoto: highs are around 13°C and lows about 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 7th (Wed) to allow time for the car ride to Nara.

The country's first established capital, Nara houses some of the most storied buildings and natural attractions in Japan, with eight World Heritage Sites in total.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Wed): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nigatsu-do Temple and then walk around Nara Park. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kofuku-ji Temple, pause for some photo ops at Todai-ji Temple, then examine the collection at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kasuga Grand Shrine.

Traveling by car from Kyoto to Nara takes an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train. In December, daily temperatures in Nara can reach 13°C, while at night they dip to 6°C. On the 9th (Fri), you'll travel to Osaka.

Osaka
