Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Fri): kick back and relax at Yonehara Beach, contemplate the long history of Ishigaki Yaima Village, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Kondoi Beach. On the next day, enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory, visit a coastal fixture at Cape Hirakubozaki, and then stroll through Kabira Park.

Traveling by flight from Miyakojima to Ishigaki takes an hour. In August in Ishigaki, expect temperatures between 90°F during the day and 81°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Sat) early enough to travel to Hiroshima.

Traveling by combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Hiroshima takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of flight and ferry. In August, daily temperatures in Hiroshima can reach 88°F, while at night they dip to 77°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Mon) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.

Traveling by train from Hiroshima to Kyoto takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of ferry, flight, and train. In August, daytime highs in Kyoto are 92°F, while nighttime lows are 77°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Thu) early enough to travel to Tokyo.
