Get in touch with nature at Koajiro Forest and Hojo Beach. Do your shopping at Ginza Itoya and Gallery 916. Milan, Italy to Tokyo is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. The time zone difference moving from Central European Time (CET) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 8 hours. When traveling from Milan in December, plan for a bit warmer days in Tokyo, with highs around 14°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Take a break from the city and head to Mount Hiei and Mt. Daimonji. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Kayabuki-no-sato Kitamura and Ippodo Tea Kyoto. Step out of Kyoto to go to Obama and see Pagoda at Myotusji Temple, which is approximately 1h 25 min away. There's lots more to do: indulge in some culinary diversions at a local gastronomic tour, take in the spiritual surroundings of Shinnyodo Temple, contemplate the long history of Hosenin, and stroll through Kyoto Gyoen National Garden.

Take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and bus; or drive. In January, plan for daily highs up to 10°C, and evening lows to 1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Mon) so you can catch the train to Nara.

The country's first established capital, Nara houses some of the most storied buildings and natural attractions in Japan, with eight World Heritage Sites in total.
Start off your visit on the 7th (Mon): take an in-depth tour of Nara National Museum, look for all kinds of wild species at Rokuen, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Wakakusa, take in the spiritual surroundings of Nigatsu-do Temple, then take an in-depth tour of Kofuku-ji Temple National Treasure Hall, and finally sample the tasty concoctions at Harushika Brewery.

Nara is just a short distance from Kyoto. Expect a daytime high around 9°C in January, and nighttime lows around 3°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Mon) early enough to drive to Koya-cho.

Traveling by car from Nara to Koya-cho takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a train. In January, daily temperatures in Koya-cho can reach 10°C, while at night they dip to 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 10th (Thu) to allow time for travel back home.
