The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Tenryuji Temple and Kennin-ji Temple will appeal to history buffs. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Eikando Zenrinji Temple and Toji. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Nara (Kofuku-ji Temple, Nigatsu-do Temple, &more). The adventure continues: contemplate the long history of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Nishi Honganji, admire the natural beauty at Okochi Sanso Garden, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Nanzen-ji Temple.

Hammamet, Tunisia to Kyoto is an approximately 21.5-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 8 hours traveling from Hammamet to Kyoto. Traveling from Hammamet in April, expect nights in Kyoto to be about the same, around 11°C, while days are little chillier, around 22°C. Shirakawa-mura

Set amid quintessentially Japanese landscape, Shirakawa-mura consists of 16 quaint villages, including a historic village of farm houses, now designated a World Heritage Site.
On the 5th (Mon), steep yourself in history at Kanda house, steep yourself in history at Wada House, get engrossed in the history at Shirakawago Gassho Zukuri Minkaen, then get great views at Ogimachi Castle Old Site Observatory, and finally contemplate the long history of Shirakawago.

You can drive from Kyoto to Shirakawa-mura in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and car; or take a bus. Plan for slightly colder nights when traveling from Kyoto in April since evenings lows in Shirakawa-mura dip to 8°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Mon) so you can drive to Ise.

On the 6th (Tue), get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Toba Aquarium, take in the spiritual surroundings of Futami Okitama Shrine, make a trip to Oharai-machi, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Sarutahiko Shrine, then get to know the fascinating history of Ise Shrine Geku, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tsukiyominomiya.

Traveling by car from Shirakawa-mura to Ise takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and train; or do a combination of bus and train. Expect a bit warmer evenings in Ise when traveling from Shirakawa-mura in April, with lows around 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Nachikatsura-cho.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
On the 9th (Fri), take in the pleasant sights at Nishihenna Cape, enjoy the sand and surf at Sunayama Beach, kick back and relax at Toguchi no Hama, head off the coast to Irabu-jima Island, then snap pictures at Ikema Ohashi Bridge, and finally snap pictures at Irabu Ohashi.
