Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Change things up with a short trip to Arena di Verona in Verona (about 1h 15 min away). There's lots more to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Canal Grande, take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo), get to know the fascinating history of Piazza San Marco, and take in panoramic vistas at St Mark's Campanile.

Getting from Florence to Positano by car takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of train and subway; or do a combination of flight, train, and subway. Traveling from Florence in July, expect a bit warmer with lows of 26°C in Positano. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) so you can ride a ferry to Vietri sul Mare.
