The capital of the island of Funen, Odense represents the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, who penned such classics as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Denmark's third-largest city proudly displays its link to the famous writer with museums, sculptures, and public art installations dedicated to Andersen and his stories.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Fri): get engrossed in the history at The Danish Railway Museum. Keep things going the next day: see the interesting displays at The Funen Village, then explore the historical opulence of Egeskov Castle, then explore the different monuments and memorials at Lindeskov langdysse, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Vor Frue Kirke.

Located on the sea, Aarhus blends a world city with a small-town feel. Home to a young population, the city has a reputation for producing internationally known pop and rock musicians.
Get some cultural insight at Moesgaard Museum and Koldinghus. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Jelling Mounds, Runic Stones and Church and Aarhus Domkirke. The adventure continues: kick back and relax at Moesgaard Strand, take an in-depth tour of Aarhus Vikingemuseet, trek along Pergolaen ved at the Town Hall, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Ballehage Strand.
