A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Trinity Beach and Palm Cove Beach. Explore hidden gems such as Australian Butterfly Sanctuary and Atherton Tablelands. Go for a jaunt from Cairns to Mareeba to see Jaques Coffee Plantation about 1 hour away. The smallest of Australia’s state capitals, Darwin has nevertheless become an attractive and important urban center, being simultaneously one of the country’s most modernized cities and a gateway to both the Top End region and South East Asia.
On the 19th (Sun), take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, then take an in-depth tour of RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility, and then examine the collection at Defence of Darwin Experience. On the 20th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: race across the water with a speed boat tour, then look for all kinds of wild species at Territory Wildlife Park, and then explore the striking landscape at Berry Springs Nature Park.

Step out of the city life by going to Uluru and Valley of the Winds. Step off the beaten path and head to Walpa Gorge and Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. There's lots more to do: explore the striking landscape at Kata Tjuta / Mount Olga, identify plant and animal life at Kuniya Walk, take in the pleasant sights at Lungkata Walk, and take an unforgettable tour with a helicopter tour.

Getting from Jabiru (Kakadu National Park) to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park by combination of bus and flight takes about 9.5 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of car and flight.
