You can take a train from Kumamoto to Kagoshima in an hour. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In June, daily temperatures in Kagoshima can reach 28°C, while at night they dip to 22°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Fri) so you can go by car to Takachiho-cho.

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
On the 6th (Sat), take in the spiritual surroundings of Amano Iwato Shrine, take in the pleasant sights at Amano Yasugawara, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Takachiho Shrine, then take in breathtaking views at Takachiho Gorge, and finally go for a walk through Takachihokyo Passage.
