Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Tokyo National Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Head to Ginza and Asakusafor some retail therapy. There's still lots to do: get a sense of history and politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, don't miss a visit to The Tsukiji Market, take a stroll through Odaiba, and admire the natural beauty at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

Melbourne, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 14.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly. The time zone difference when traveling from Melbourne to Tokyo is minus 1 hour. Traveling from Melbourne in July, things will get much warmer in Tokyo: highs are around 36°C and lows about 27°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Fri) early enough to travel to Onna-son.

Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Get outdoors at Nirai Beach and Okuma Beach. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Onna-son: Shurijo Castle (in Naha) and Motobu-cho (Emerald Beach & Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium). There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Kariyushi Beach.

Do a combination of flight and taxi from Tokyo to Onna-son in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, flight, and taxi; or do a combination of train, taxi, and flight. In July, plan for daily highs up to 37°C, and evening lows to 30°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Mon) so you can travel to Hatsukaichi.

The city of Hatsukaichi developed from a small market town, frequented by passing samurais during the Edo period.
On the 10th (Tue), examine the collection at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, then step into the grandiose world of Hiroshima Castle, then appreciate the history behind Atomic Bomb Dome, and finally don't miss a visit to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Here are some ideas for day two: step off the mainland to explore Miyajima and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Itsukushima Shrine.

Traveling by combination of taxi, flight, and train from Onna-son to Hatsukaichi takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi, ferry, and train; or do a combination of car and ferry. July in Hatsukaichi sees daily highs of 36°C and lows of 28°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Gion and Nijo-jo Castle are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get some historical perspective at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Kinkaku-ji. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Osaka (Dotonbori & Osaka Castle). Next up on the itinerary: take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, and don't miss a visit to Heian Shrine.

You can take a train from Hatsukaichi to Kyoto in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In July, plan for daily highs up to 37°C, and evening lows to 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
