Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Start off your visit on the 11th (Sun): don't miss a visit to Kishiwada Tenjingu Shrine. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in the spiritual surroundings of Wakihama Ebisu Grand Shrine, examine the collection at Kishiwada Danjiri Kaikan, then take in the dramatic scenery at Gyoja no Taki, then revel in the low prices at Rinku Premium Outlets, and finally stop by Kanku Observation Hall Sky View.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.

Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Senjuji Temple (in Tsu) and Uji (Asahiyaki & Chatsubogata Post). And it doesn't end there: take in the spiritual surroundings of Benzaiten Chokeiji Temple, make a trip to Fushimi Sake Brewers Association, examine the collection at Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum, and take a stroll through Fushimi Suigo.
