Tokyo is known for historic sites, shopping, parks, museums, and nightlife. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, get a sense of history and politics at Imperial Palace, take some stellar pictures from Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sensō-ji.

Santiago de Compostela, Spain to Tokyo is an approximately 18.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of train and flight. You'll lose 8 hours traveling from Santiago de Compostela to Tokyo due to the time zone difference. Start off your visit on the 16th (Fri): steep yourself in history at Atomic Bomb Dome, then steep yourself in history at Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima, and then examine the collection at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. On the 17th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: head off the coast to Miyajima and then contemplate the long history of Itsukushima Shrine.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Hiroshima takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In August, daily temperatures in Hiroshima can reach 36°C, while at night they dip to 29°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sat) so you can take a train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Sun): admire the natural beauty at Koko-en Garden, then explore the historical opulence of Himeji Castle, then make a trip to Shoshazan Engyoji, and finally steep yourself in history at Yoneda Taishiji Temple.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Himeji in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. August in Himeji sees daily highs of 35°C and lows of 31°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sun) so you can catch the train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step out of Kyoto to go to Osaka and see Universal Studios Japan, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. There's lots more to do: make a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, contemplate the long history of Heian Shrine, and step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle.

You can take a train from Himeji to Kyoto in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. While traveling from Himeji, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto, ranging from highs of 39°C to lows of 29°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Wed) to allow enough time to take a train to Kanazawa.

Kanazawa

An old castle town largely unspoiled during World War II, Kanazawa features well-preserved architecture spread across a range of districts.
On the 22nd (Thu), make a trip to Omicho Market, then walk around Kenrokuen Garden, then explore the historical opulence of Kanazawa Castle, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Gongenmori Beach.

You can take a train from Kyoto to Kanazawa in 2.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Kyoto in August, you will find days in Kanazawa are little chillier (35°C), and nights are about the same (27°C).
