A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Appreciate the collections at Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura) and Karafuto Kankei Museum. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Sapporo Underground Shopping Centre Aurora Town and Tanukikoji Shopping Street. There's still lots to do: make a trip to Sapporo Clock Tower, indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, contemplate the long history of Hokkaido Jingu, and stroll around Odori Park.

Kuantan, Malaysia to Sapporo is an approximately 20-hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone difference moving from Malaysia Time (MYT) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 1 hour. Plan for colder temperatures traveling from Kuantan in December, with highs in Sapporo at 0°C and lows at -2°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Wed) to allow time to take a train to Asahikawa.
