Along the Dalmation Coast, the city of Dubrovnik has become famous for its pedestrian-only Old Town surrounded by fortress walls, and its historical heft has earned it World Heritage Site status.
On the 3rd (Mon), take an in-depth tour of Franciscan Monastery. On the 4th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: wander the streets of Old Town and then steep yourself in history at Dubrovnik City Walls.

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
On the 6th (Thu), take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika), appreciate the history behind Hősök tere, see the interesting displays at House of Terror Museum, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Matthias Church, and finally make a trip to Halaszbastya. On the next day, contemplate the long history of Liberty Statue, steep yourself in history at Dohány Street Synagogue, then pause for some photo ops at Shoes on the Danube, and finally ponder the world of politics at Hungarian Parliament Building.

Traveling from Dubrovnik in August, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be slightly colder in Budapest, with lows of 18°C. One of Poland's oldest cities, Krakow sits at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, its historical town center nestled on the left bank of the Vistula River.
