The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Explore hidden gems such as Yutoku Inari Shrine and Shitsu Church. Popular historic sites such as Suwa Shrine and Glover Garden are in your itinerary. And it doesn't end there: pause for some serene contemplation at Catholic Nakamachi Church, steep yourself in history at Nyokodo, Nagai Takashi Museum, see the interesting displays at Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kofukuji Temple.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Nagasaki is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Malaysia Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. In July, daily temperatures in Nagasaki can reach 36°C, while at night they dip to 29°C. A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Start off your visit on the 31st (Wed): identify plant and animal life at Yakusugi Land. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 1st (Thu): examine the collection at The Yakushima World Heritage Conservation Center, kick back and relax at Nagata Inakahama, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Tashiro Beach.

You can do a combination of train, flight, and taxi from Nagasaki to Yakushima-cho in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, ferry, and taxi; or do a combination of ferry and car. In July, plan for daily highs up to 35°C, and evening lows to 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Thu) to allow time to travel to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
On the 2nd (Fri), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dazaifu Temmangu, take in the spiritual surroundings of Atago Jinja Shrine, take an in-depth tour of Fukuoka City Museum, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Hakozaki-gu, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tochoji Temple. Keep things going the next day: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kashii-gu, contemplate the long history of Fukuoka Castle Ruins, appreciate the extensive heritage of Yoshinogari Historical Park, then steep yourself in history at Nanzoin, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kushida Shrine.

You can do a combination of taxi and flight from Yakushima-cho to Fukuoka in 3.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of taxi, flight, and train; or do a combination of taxi, ferry, and train. In August, plan for daily highs up to 38°C, and evening lows to 29°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sat) early enough to drive to Takachiho-cho.

Traveling by car from Fukuoka to Takachiho-cho takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In August in Takachiho-cho, expect temperatures between 36°C during the day and 27°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Beppu.
