An important gateway for trade and travel between Honshu and Kyushu, the city of Kitakyushu has an old industrial waterfront and provides access to a number of natural sites across the wider region.
Kick off your visit on the 27th (Fri): don't miss a visit to San Ki Ro, admire the natural beauty at Shiranoe Botanical Garden, then make a trip to Old Kurauchi Residence, then admire the sheer force of Sugao Waterfall, and finally get curious at Kitakyushu Culture and Science Museum for Youth. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 28th (Sat): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sumiyoshi Shrine, appreciate the extensive heritage of Jokamachi Chofu, make a trip to Kanmon Tunnel for Humans (Moji Side), then contemplate the long history of Ogai Mori Former Residence, then walk around Takatoyama Park, and finally admire the natural beauty at Green Park.

Singapore, Singapore to Kitakyushu is an approximately 9.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of car and ferry. Traveling from Singapore to Kitakyushu, you'll lose 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Singapore in December, things will get cooler in Kitakyushu: highs are around 13°C and lows about 7°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Sat) early enough to take a train to Beppu.

The resort town of Beppu puts the geothermal nature of the region to good use.
Start off your visit on the 29th (Sun): get in on the family fun at Kijima Kogen Park, trek along Mt. Tsurumi, then contemplate the waterfront views at Shidakako Lake, then look for gifts at Angel Kimono Rental Beppu, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Jumonjibaru Observation Deck. On the 30th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate the long history of Kumano Magaibutsu, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fukiji Temple, then get engrossed in the history at Oita Prefectural Museum of History, and finally indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens.

Traveling by train from Kitakyushu to Beppu takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In December, daily temperatures in Beppu can reach 13°C, while at night they dip to 6°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Mon) so you can drive to Taketa.

Taketa is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Japan. Kick off your visit on the 31st (Tue): make a trip to Christian Cave Bethel, take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Kuju, stroll around Sky Park Azamidai Observatory, then see human ingenuity at work at Hakusui Dam, and finally walk around Nyuta Nakashima Park. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 1st (Wed): take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Nakadake, appreciate the views at Kuju Highland, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Kuju Mountain Range, and finally get great views at Senomoto Kogen.

Traveling by car from Beppu to Taketa takes 1.5 hours. Plan for slightly colder nights when traveling from Beppu in December since evenings lows in Taketa dip to 3°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Wed) so you can go by car to Takachiho-cho.

Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Amano Iwato Shrine. Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Thu): take in the views from Takachiho Bridge, take in the dramatic natural features at Tokubetsuto Rice Terraces, take in the spiritual surroundings of Aratate Shrine, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kaguraden, then make a trip to Akimoto Shrine, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Amanomanai.
