With a long Pacific coastline, Nanjo offers fantastic views of the ocean from high cliffs covered with lush greenery, as well as from its long sandy beaches.
Start off your visit on the 9th (Fri): discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, look for gifts at Onna Station Nakayukui Market, and then steep yourself in history at Sefa-Utaki. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Get some historical perspective at Nijo-jo Castle and Sanjusangendo Temple. Get a sense of the local culture at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Kinkaku-ji. There's much more to do: steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ryoanji Temple, and make a trip to Gion.
