Steeped in Ryukyuan history, Nakijin-son tourism centers around the ruins of an ancient stonewall castle.
On the 22nd (Tue), don't miss a visit to Okinawa Memorial Park Ocean Expo Park, meet the residents at Okichan Theater, then make a trip to Nakijin Castle Ruins, and finally step off the mainland to explore Kouri-jima Island.

Melbourne, Australia to Nakijin-son is an approximately 18-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from Melbourne to Nakijin-son. A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Wed): snap pictures at Irabu Bridge, kick back and relax at Yonaha Maehama Beach, then take in the views from Kurima Bridge, then go for a walk through Imugya Marine Garden, and finally don't miss a visit to East Henna Cape. You can do a combination of taxi, bus, and flight from Nakijin-son to Miyakojima in 4.5 hours. Expect a bit warmer evenings in Miyakojima when traveling from Nakijin-son in January, with lows around 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 24th (Thu) to allow time to ride a ferry to Iriomote-jima.

On the 26th (Sat), enjoy breathtaking views from Tamatorizaki Observatory, enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Yonehara Beach, and finally get great views at Cape Ongazaki. You can do a combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Kyoto in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and train. Prepare for colder weather when traveling from Ishigaki in January: high temperatures in Kyoto hover around 10°C and lows are around 1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Tue) so you can travel to Tokyo.
