Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Step out of Venice to go to Padua and see Scrovegni Chapel, which is approximately 54 minutes away. There's lots more to do: appreciate the extensive heritage of Piazza San Marco, see the interesting displays at Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, explore the galleries of Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and explore the historical opulence of Ca' d'Oro.
