A physical and cultural bridge between Europe and Asia, the transcontinental city of Istanbul serves as a living reminder of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires.
Step off the beaten path and head to Chora Museum and Yeni Camii. Kids will appreciate attractions like Istanbul Archaeological Museum and Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum (Turk ve Islam Eserleri Muzesi). There's lots more to do: appreciate the extensive heritage of Pierre Loti Tepesi, stop by Mısır Çarşısı, admire the landmark architecture of Sultanahmet Square, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Little Hagia Sophia.

Famed for its landscape of unusually shaped stone formations and churches cut into the natural rocks, Goreme sits in the central part of the country, an area originally settled during Roman times.
Step off the beaten path and head to Güvercinlik Vadisi (Pigeon Valley) and Off-Road Tours. Uchisar Castle and Goreme National Park are good opportunities to explore the local culture. There's still lots to do: admire the verdant scenery at Gulludere Vadisi, soar above the sights with a balloon tour, and explore the striking landscape at Pasabag.

You can fly from Istanbul to Goreme in 4.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Istanbul in August, expect nights in Goreme to be slightly colder, around 19°C, while days are a bit warmer, around 38°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel to Antalya.

Plan for somewhat warmer nights when traveling from Goreme in August since evenings lows in Antalya dip to 28°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Alanya.
