A modern city and a major transport hub facing Seto Inland Sea, Takamatsu offers a bustling city lifestyle contrasted with carefully manicured, tranquil green areas at the foot of the mountains and the lava plateau.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Thu): get engrossed in the history at Shikoku Mura Village, make a trip to Takamasu Port, then stroll around Ritsurin Garden, then take in nature's colorful creations at Tamamo Park, and finally soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens. On the 20th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the spiritual surroundings of Yashima-ji Temple, take in the awesome beauty at Yashima, steep yourself in history at Hiunkaku, then explore the historical opulence of Marugame Castle, then take in the views from Sayabashi Bridge, and finally steep yourself in history at Kotohira-gu.

Drive from Naruto to Takamatsu in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. Traveling from Naruto in December, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be slightly colder in Takamatsu, with lows of 3°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Fri) early enough to go by car to Matsuyama.

Venture out of the city with trips to Saijo (Yokomineji, Kamegamori Forest, & more), Garyu Sanso (in Ozu) and Imabari (Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, Oyamazumi Shrine, & more). There's still lots to do: explore the historical opulence of Matsuyama Castle, don't miss a visit to Dogo Onsen Station, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ishiteji, and test the waters at a local thermal spa.
