Known as a prominent medieval seaport, and for its keyhole burial mounds and Samurai swords, the bayside city of Sakai boasts plenty of attractions.
Let the collections at Koyasan Reihokan Museum and Alphonse Mucha Museum capture your imagination. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Rinku Premium Outlets and Jikko Cutlery. Explore Sakai's surroundings by going to Mount Odaigahara (in Kamikitayama-mura), Izumisano (Gyoja no Taki & Mt. Inunaki) and Koya-cho (Koyasan Daimon, Koyasan Danjo Garan, & more). There's still lots to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Yoshino, take in the dramatic scenery at Sasanotaki, take in the dramatic natural features at Soni Highland, and Head underground at Toro Cave.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major airports are Osaka International Airport, Kansai International Airport and Chubu Centrair International Airport. In July in Sakai, expect temperatures between 89°F during the day and 80°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.
