Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Nara Park and Dotonbori. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street and Shimada Shoten. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Osaka: Higashinada (Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum & Kobe Fashion Museum) and Nara (Todaiji Temple Cultural Center & Todai-ji Temple). And it doesn't end there: explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, examine the collection at Museum of Oriental Ceramics, and view the masterpieces at Hankyu Umeda Gallery.
