The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Venture out of the city with trips to Dazaifu (Kyushu National Museum & Dazaifu Temmangu), Komenoyama Obsevatory (in Sasaguri-machi) and Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History (in Yahatahigashi). There's still lots to do: admire the landmark architecture of Hakata Station, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Hiko, take in the spiritual surroundings of Tenkai Inari Shrine, and make a trip to Kokura Castle.

Manila, Philippines to Fukuoka is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. The time zone difference moving from Philippines Time (PHT) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 1 hour. In April, Fukuoka is much colder than Manila - with highs of 23°C and lows of 13°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Wed) so you can catch the train to Nagasaki.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Kick off your visit on the 30th (Thu): tour the pleasant surroundings at Glover Garden, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Catholic Church Hongouchi, then take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Inasa, then walk around Nagasaki Peace Park, and finally get engrossed in the history at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum.

Getting from Fukuoka to Nagasaki by train takes about 2 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In April, daily temperatures in Nagasaki can reach 22°C, while at night they dip to 14°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Kumamoto.

Take a train from Kumamoto to Beppu in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. While traveling from Kumamoto, expect a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Beppu, ranging from highs of 24°C to lows of 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sun) early enough to go by car to Fukuoka.
