Kick off your visit on the 5th (Mon): contemplate the waterfront views at Yunoko Lake, take in the dramatic scenery at Yudaki Falls, take in the dramatic scenery at Ryuzu Waterfall, thencontemplate the waterfront views at Lake Chuzenji, thencontemplate the long history of Taiyuimbyo Shrine, and finally steep yourself in history at Yomeimon (Main Gate).

Getting from Nikko to Kyoto by train takes about 5 hours. Other options: drive; or fly. When traveling from Nikko in October, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto: temperatures range from 74°F by day to 60°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Wed) early enough to take a train to Himeji.
