Start off your visit on the 22nd (Sun): examine the collection at Shirakawago Tajimake Yosan Sericulture Museum, thenmake a trip to The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Gassho Style Houses, and then steep yourself in history at Shirakawago. Drive from Nagoya to Shirakawa-mura in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and taxi. Traveling from Nagoya in March, plan for slightly colder nights in Shirakawa-mura, with lows around °C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Mon) early enough to go by car to Takayama.

Hidden high up in the Japanese Alps, Takayama remained largely cut off from the rest of Japan for centuries, allowing the local culture to grow in relative isolation.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Tue): browse the exhibits of Hida Minzoka Mura Folk Village (Hida no Sato), steep yourself in history at Takayama Jinya, stop by Sanmachi Suji, thenappreciate the extensive heritage of Higashiyama Walking Course, thensee the interesting displays at Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine.
