Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Step out of Tokyo to go to Maihama and see Ikspiari, which is approximately 40 minutes away. There's much more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, admire the striking features of Tokyo Tower, don't miss a visit to Imperial Palace, and get a sense of history and politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings.

Newark, USA to Tokyo is an approximately 16-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of train, subway, bus, and flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 14 hour difference. Traveling from Newark in April, expect a bit warmer with lows of 51°F in Tokyo. Cap off your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) early enough to catch the train to Kanazawa.

Getting from Tokyo to Kanazawa by train takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. Traveling from Tokyo in April, plan for a bit cooler nights in Kanazawa, with lows around 45°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 19th (Sun) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Start off your visit on the 20th (Mon): explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Heian Shrine, and finally make a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. On the next day, steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple, contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, then take in nature's colorful creations at Shosei-en Garden, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Ginkaku-ji Temple.

Take a train from Kanazawa to Kyoto in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In April, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 67°F, while at night they dip to 50°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 21st (Tue) so you can catch the train to Himeji.

Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Wed): make a trip to Shoshazan Engyoji, admire the natural beauty at Koko-en Garden, then step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, and finally make a trip to Otemae Street.
