The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Start off your visit on the 22nd (Fri): pause for some serene contemplation at St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Historically known for the production of salt, Halstatt's fine architecture reflects the small village's salt mining legacy.
Beinhaus, Karner, Ossuary and Landesmuseum Joanneum GmbH are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Museum-lovers will get to explore Museum Hallstatt and Kammerhofmuseum Bad Aussee. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hallstatt: Woerschachklamm (in Worschach) and Stoderzinken (in Grobming). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Hallstatt Skywalk "Welterbeblick", enjoy the sand and surf at Badestrand Hallstatt, take in the spiritual surroundings of Hallstatt Lutheran Church, and take in the dramatic scenery at Waldbachstrub Waterfall.

Drive from Vienna to Hallstatt in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of flight and train. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Wed) early enough to drive to St. Wolfgang.
