Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Start off your visit on the 10th (Mon): identify plant and animal life at Black Hills National Forest, look for gifts at Insideout, thenexplore the striking landscape at Needles Eye Tunnel, and finally contemplate the waterfront views at Sylvan Lake. Keep things going the next day: take a memorable drive along Iron Mountain Road, cruise along Wildlife Loop Road, and then hike along Elk Mountain Nature Trail.
