The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
On the 16th (Sat), step off the mainland to explore Hashima Island, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Inasa, walk around Nagasaki Peace Park, then get engrossed in the history at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at Glover Garden.

Jakarta, Indonesia to Nagasaki is an approximately 13-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone difference when traveling from Jakarta to Nagasaki is 2 hours. Traveling from Jakarta in May, things will get a bit cooler in Nagasaki: highs are around 28°C and lows about 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Sasebo.

Getting from Sasebo to Beppu by car takes about 3 hours. Other options: take a bus; or take a train. When traveling from Sasebo in May, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Beppu: temperatures range from 24°C by day to 19°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Start off your visit on the 20th (Wed): take in the spiritual surroundings of Kushida Shrine, don't miss a visit to Hakata Station, take in panoramic vistas at Fukuoka Tower, then let the kids burn off some steam at Ohori Park, and finally browse the different shops at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center.

You can drive from Beppu to Fukuoka in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. While traveling from Beppu, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Fukuoka, ranging from highs of 28°C to lows of 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel to Yakushima-cho.

Kick off your visit on the 21st (Thu): discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, take in breathtaking views at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley, and then identify plant and animal life at Anbo River. Keep things going the next day: admire the sheer force of Janokuchinotaki Falls and then explore the striking landscape of Yakusugi Land.

Do a combination of flight and taxi from Fukuoka to Yakushima-cho in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, flight, and taxi; or do a combination of train, ferry, and taxi. Expect a daytime high around 28°C in May, and nighttime lows around 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Fri) so you can travel to Kagoshima.
