Start off your visit on the 9th (Wed): explore the world behind art at Tokyo National Museum, take a stroll through Asakusa, and then take an in-depth tour of Edo-Tokyo Museum. On the 10th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take a stroll through Ginza, explore the world behind art at Ghibli Museum Mitaka, and then don't miss a visit to Takeshita Street.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Tokyo is an approximately 11.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Get a sense of the local culture at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Get some historical perspective at Kinkaku-ji and Ryoanji Temple. When in Kyoto, make a side trip to see Dotombori District in Dotombori, approximately Dotombori away. There's much more to do: wander the streets of Gion, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sanjusangendo Temple, don't miss a visit to Nijo Castle, and admire the natural beauty at Shosei-en Garden.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. January in Kyoto sees daily highs of 10°C and lows of 1°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Sun) so you can catch the train to Hiroshima.

A tiny island in the Yae-yama archipelago, Taketomi-jima enjoys popularity as a beach getaway, best known for its stretches of "star sand"--sand made up of tiny star-shaped exoskeletons of ancient fossils.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Tue): take in the waterfront at Nishi Pier, then head outdoors with Kondoi Beach, and then head outdoors with Kaiji Beach.

You can do a combination of train, flight, and ferry from Hiroshima to Taketomi-jima in 6.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of flight and ferry. Traveling from Hiroshima in January, things will get warmer in Taketomi-jima: highs are around 24°C and lows about 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Tue) early enough to ride a ferry to Miyakojima.
