Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Start off your visit on the 1st (Mon): explore the activities along Meguro River, enjoy the sand and surf at Odaiba Kaihin Koen (Odaiba Seaside Park), and then examine the collection at Samurai Museum.

Perth, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 16-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Australian Western Standard Time (AWST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Prepare for much hotter weather when traveling from Perth in July: high temperatures in Tokyo hover around 36°C and lows are around 27°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Mon) early enough to travel to Osaka.

Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Shop till you drop at Dotonbori and Jikko Cutlery. Osaka Castle and Kongobu-ji Temple will appeal to history buffs. Change things up with these side-trips from Osaka: Amore Beach (in Akashi), Koya-cho (Koyasan Danjo Garan & Mt. Koya) and Nara (Todai-ji Temple, Daibutsuden, & more). There's much more to do: admire the verdant scenery at Arima Onsen, wander the streets of Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street, don't miss a visit to Kuromon Market, and admire the masterpieces at Koyano Museum of Antique Main Building.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Osaka takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In July, daily temperatures in Osaka can reach 37°C, while at night they dip to 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Fri) to allow time to travel to Hiroshima.

Take a train from Osaka to Hiroshima in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and train. In July, plan for daily highs up to 36°C, and evening lows to 28°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Sat) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Gion and Nijo Castle. Step out of the city life by going to Omimaiko Beach and Mt. Kurama. There's much more to do: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sanjusangendo Temple, get all the equipment you need at Fuuka-Kimono, and explore the activities along Kamogawa River.
