Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Otaru is an approximately 13.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of bus, flight, and train. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Otaru due to the time zone difference. Prepare for colder weather when traveling from Kuala Lumpur in January: high temperatures in Otaru hover around -3°C and lows are around -6°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Asahikawa.

When traveling from Otaru in January, plan for little chillier days in Asahikawa, with highs around -6°C, while nights are about the same with lows around -9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Fri) early enough to take a train to Sapporo.
