Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Fri): pause for some photo ops at Saigo Takamori Statue, go for a walk through Sengan-en, enjoy breathtaking views from Shiroyama Observatory, then see the interesting displays at Museum of the Meiji Restoration, and finally make a trip to Kagoshima Chuo Station.

To see other places to visit, traveler tips, more things to do, and other tourist information, refer to the Kagoshima vacation maker tool.

If you are flying in from The Netherlands, the closest major aiport is Kagoshima Airport. Expect a daytime high around 17°C in March, and nighttime lows around 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
