Sukhothai Historical Park, Sukhothai

4.8
Explore Thailand's ancient history at Sukhothai Historical Park, the capital of the first Kingdom of Siam and now a World Heritage Site. With well-preserved palace buildings, impressive Buddha figures, and evocative ruined temples, the park represents one of the major places to visit in Thailand. The large town's layout and structures, along with the nature that surrounds, make this an extremely photogenic place, as well as a historically rich one. Note that the attraction gets crowded at peak hours; you can zoom past the masses on a rented bicycle. Using our custom trip planner, Sukhothai attractions like Sukhothai Historical Park can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Suthokhai, first capital of the country, little-known so little of tourist, many path to discover, we don't have that the central route, it took us 1 h 30 walk. You have the possibility to make tuk tuk or bicycle or to hop on hop pff. You have also the possibility to rent an iPad with an application point make you discover the history of this capital. Wonderful to do.

  • Less touristy but worth the drive because it is quiet, there are few people and it's nice enough... to go to the new town of Sukhothai, which is 12km take a tuk tuk c is 5 euros for 2 people... the visit of the central area can be done on foot (count 1 h 30) or by bike, add the same for the other two zones by walking quietly...

  • Beautiful park with temples of an ancient kingdom. Definitely rent a bike just outside the entrance. With that you can explore the central part with ease as it quite large and are also flexible to go to the other sectors. Central part is closed for other traffic than foot or bike. So it's real peaceful inside and also take a moment to enjoy that while laying in the park.
  • The park is well sign posted and plenty of parking. There are various options regarding travelling around the park, you can walk hire a bicycle or take a bus tour. I recommend the bikes they are cheap and a nice.relaxing way to explore. As for the monuments they are well preserved and well worth a visit!
  • A beautiful historical park that need to be seen once in life. Ideal for couples, families and solo travelers. You can walk, cycle or get a tourist electric bus to visit the ruins. Is possible to visit the park in one day, they say you cannot miss the sunset here.
  • Wonderful place to check out. You have to get a bike, it makes it a blast. The market has some pretty good deals, and at the first of the month there are fireworks! Sadly we didn't get to stay and watch. The traffic is thick outside the park, but once you get in it's really cool.
  • Best visit experience in Thailand so far. You can stay in the park for a whole day. Bring your book, music and hire a bike. Thanks for its isolated location, you may only encounter hundreds only visitors in the park. But Watch out the sunshine!!!!!

Where to stay in Sukhothai

Sukhothai tourism has been growing for decades, meaning you can now find many places to stay around town, even on a budget. Most accommodations are in New Sukhothai, which lies 12 km (7.45 mi) from the historical park, but lacks many interesting sights of its own. However, good transport connections between the two cities make it easy to explore the historical city on a day trip. If you have a bit more in your budget, save yourself some traveling time by staying near the old city. Do your homework before you book, though--some of the older hotels have a reputation for being run-down and not particularly clean.
