Jozani Forest, Zanzibar Island

3.8
#2 of 6 in Nature in Zanzibar Island
Get a close-up view of the rare red colobus monkey at Jozani Forest, Tanzania's only national park on the island of Zanzibar. With mangroves, tropical forests, and coral rag, this 50 sq km (19 sq mi) park also plays home to midget frogs, Sykes' monkeys, bush babies, Aders' duikers, and, reportedly, the legendary Zanzibar leopard. Nocturnal hyraxes here keep company to over 50 species of butterfly and 40 species of birds. Take a safari tour to see red colobuses, emblematic of Zanzibar's conservation efforts. • Very pleasant walk in this forest of the island of Zanzibar. We had a huge rain but the walk remains nice, monkeys, terrestrial mangrove (see seed below). The chaperones are well documented.

  • Nice walk through monkey area and we have seen a lot. Then to the mangrove forest. We liked it!

  • Red colobus monkeys live here in their natural habitat. Also beautiful mangroves. It's a must if you visit Zanzibar.
  • Was worth the experience, but got to see little monkeys only from far away, walked in the forest and learned more about trees :) cannot go in alone, only with a ticket and a tipped guide, journey was 1,5 hour
