Cheetah's Rock, Zanzibar Island

4.8
Interact with a cheetah, watch the feeding of a white lion, and shake

hands with ring-tailed lemurs at Cheetah's Rock, an animal sanctuary on

the east coast designed for close interaction with visitors. Run by a

licensed animal trainer, this establishment keeps rescued or donated

animals, making them available for a close-up view and personal

interaction in many cases. Highlights include rare striped hyenas, a

football-playing zebra, and young cheetah brothers received from a

CITES accredited conservation center. The place does not accept visitors

under 15, and you are advised not to wear any overpowering perfume or

aftershave that could irritate the animals. Reserve your place in advance

due to the attraction's popularity. Work out when and for how long to visit Cheetah's Rock and other Zanzibar Island attractions using our handy Zanzibar Island road trip website .

  • If you do your research as you have done, you will stumble across Zanzibar’s best kept secret, it is indeed Cheetah’s Rock. This is one of the most factual and immersive animal experiences I have ever...  more »
  • Truly unforgettable experience!! Beautiful property managed excellently and with passion... you can feel it already from the arrival, when coconut water is offered and the purpose of the center and the thousand difficulties that the boys who manage it face are explained. The actual tour then begins with the encounter with the zebra: you are made to sit inside the cage where, after a complete and exhaustive explanation, you have the opportunity to feed it and of course take a lot of fantastic photos!!! The tour then continues with the encounter inside the cages of lemurs, monkeys and turtles! There are also, two tigers, two hyenas and a beautiful lion to which, if you have enough courage, you can feed... obviously from the outside of the cage!! The tour then arrives at the highlight... the meeting with the cheetahs!! They are made to sit inside a fence where, under the supervision of the boys, the two cheetahs are left free and the opportunity is given to take pictures with them... seeing them up so closely was an unforgettable emotion!!! The tour then ends with the meeting with a lion cub and a tiger cub that you can pet, fantastic!! It was really a unique experience, to get in touch with these beautiful animals, to be able to feed them and take photos, all for the noble purpose of their preservation... and although the cost of the ticket may seem a bit high, it is absolutely justified by the excellent care with which they are kept!! I absolutely recommend visiting this beautiful property, also to reward the huge commitment that the guys who run it put us daily!!
