Witness the preserved ruin left in the wake of the 1999 earthquake at 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan, and learn about the mechanics of this mighty natural phenomenon. Set on the grounds of the former Guangfu Junior High School, the government preserved the facility's collapsed buildings and buckled athletics field, constructing a modern museum around the carnage. Exploring the site, you'll get a real sense of the scale of the earthquake's power and have the opportunity to glean information on how the events of '99 unfurled. You'll also learn about the early warning systems available, and how the people here went about rebuilding their lives after the disaster. A must-visit, especially if you come from a non-earthquake zone. All the exhibits have English commentary. Very comprehensive exhibition to help you understand why earthquakes occur, their impact, what we need to do in an earthquake, the engineering techniques used to mitigate its effects, and smart technologies for the home. TIP: they have an earthquake simulator that is worth experiencing but has long queues. Make that your first stop to get a queue number. They also have other very educational and engaging small experiential simulators.
Informative exhibit introducing visitors about the nature of earthquakes, and disaster preparedness. Hands on installments that really educate how earthquakes work, and how infrastructure effected the loss of lives, and how society can do better. The demolished debris left from the earthquake were a real reminder of the dangers of quakes. The guides show genuine interest in the subject and the earthquake simulation was eye opening. Highly recommended learning experience that everyone should go to.
