The oldest in the city of Tainan, Hayashi Department Store features a memorable combination of traditional and modern. Ever since its opening in 1932, this building has been a favorite shopping and gathering place for citizens. It sustained severe damaged in World War II, but its most famous and important feature remained untouched--the first elevator in the country, which still works today.   台湾の元百貨店の建物としては最も古いのでは。台湾の現代感覚の雑貨や土産物を販売されています。入口に今何人建物に入っているのかが電光表示されていて耐震荷重の関係でしょうね。  more »

  It is the oldest building of a former department store in Taiwan. Taiwan's modern goods and souvenirs are sold. How many buildings are in the entrance now is displayed by lightning, and it might be related to the earthquake-resistant load.

  This renovated department store is a new and worth spot for visitors to Tainan. There are many great choices of souvenirs on different floors. Don't forget to go to the rooftop. Although it's not the tallest building in Tainan anymore, you can still how it commanded the corner when it was first built. Besides, there're two more bonus points to see on the rooftop: a Japanese shrine, and several bases of anti-aircraft guns from the last century.

  Very historical and unique mall to visit. Taking the old elevator is a must. The small temple at roof top is very nice. Stores inside carries unique handmade items.
