Home to one of the tooth relics of Gautama Buddha, Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum serves as a Mahayana Buddhist center. This complex opened in 2011 as an educational, religious, and cultural space for local and foreign visitors. Located behind the main temple, this area is over 100 hectares (247 acres) and has eight Chinese pagodas symbolizing the Noble Eightfold Path. Here, you will also find stupas that represent the Four Noble Truths, Welcoming Hall, Memorial Hall, and a photo terrace where you can capture images to show friends at home. I visited not understanding fully what this place was about, and I was first impressed by the size of this place. Then the main ground is well maintained and along the walls you could learn about the temple and the roots of it. In some of the smaller buildings you could watch videos about the temple. In main building its a temple and you could see lots of artifacts and the history behind the founder of this place, and all of this is quite impressive with wide range of exhibits. But the most memorable experience I had is the hospitality of the volunteer staff here. Upon learning that I was a cyclist cycling around Taiwan he showed me around the museum and offered to take a picture of me. Even if you're not a Buddhist this place is a must visit if you're in the area.
Absolutely blown away by this temple complex. The staff were all very helpful and explained things clearly in English for me. We ate at the buffet for 150 TWD and it was good. It was very hot, there are covered paths but still worth bringing an umbrella if you want to walk around. Highly recommend this place.
