Brush up on your local history with an excursion to Anping Fort (Anping gubao), a 17th-century fort constructed by the Dutch East India Company. Developed over a 10-year period between 1624 and 1634, the fort became a central hub for trade in East Asia throughout Dutch and Japanese occupations of Tainan. Follow well-kept paths to some of the few surviving remnants of the original fort, including the red brick city walls and oyster kiln. Much of the site is newly built, housing a collection of museums for you to wander through, learning the fort’s extensive history. Climb the steps of the observation tower for some of the town’s best views, and make the most of the predominantly English displays. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Tainan trip simple and quick.

Anping Fort (Anping gubao) reviews
A must see in Tainan. The area is nice and you can buy a live lock and put it in the tower of the fort. Staircase was easy to navigate. more »
As stated by many reviewers, there isn't much left of the original fort but the little gift shop at the top of the fort was a welcome AC cooled shelter on the melting hot day I went there... more »
It is Dutch fort later renovated by Japanese. The fort as well as surrounding area is beautiful. Great place to take break from the heat and humid weather of Tainan city. The entry fee is very nominal which is NT 50 for adults and NT 25 for students. The place is very relaxing and easily approachable.
One of the must-visit destinations in Tainan. Lots of history here. Does have an entry fee but it's only $50 regular rate and even better deal if you purchase a package or special rates. Basically free. Has nice air conditioned areas to take a break from the heat in the hot weather. Lots of various local foods nearby. Popular with both locals and tourists.
