Visit the turtle sanctuary at Galibi Nature Reserve, located at the mouth of the Marowinja River. The sanctuary provides a home to four main species, including leatherback, green, hawksbill, and olive ridley turtle. During mating season, these magnificent creatures congregate on the golden sands of the island. The nature reserve is accessible only by boat and covers roughly 4,000 hectares (9,884 acre). Local villagers are allowed to use the protected area for fishing, hunting, and plant collecting.
