Plaza Mayor de Valladolid, Valladolid

Historic Site · Tourist Spot
Plaza Mayor de Valladolid, nearly the biggest and oldest square in Spain, dates back to the mid-13th century. It became a milestone in Spanish Baroque architecture after Francisco de Salamanca took charge of its reconstruction, much needed after the 1561 fire. Look toward the center for a statue of the founder of Valladolid, Pedro Ansúrez. On the north end, see the seat of the town hall. Check online for events during your visit, as the city council puts on activities almost every week. • The square is very large, but the area was not interesting. The shops and cafes border the square are average.  more »
  • Such a beautiful place. Its very busy and we went when the Christmas lights and markets were on. Lots of cafe's and places to stop and take in the atmosphere. We'll worth a visit.  more »

  • Unexpected to tell the truth. Valladolid has a very interesting city centre. Very lively in a nice way! Lots of different "quarters" to discover. Just enjoying a late night coffee on one of the pedestrianised streets, of which there are many. A real nice vibe here.
  • Wonderful square in Valladolid the prototype for all the beautiful squares in Spanish and South American cities, so I am told. The buildings are mostly red in colour and there are cafes at the edge. The surface is mainly new and this combined with the number of roads leading off the square reduces the number of stars from 5 to 4. Still lovely though.
