New Cathedral (Catedral Nueva), Salamanca

#5 of 33 in Historic Sites in Salamanca
World heritage site · Religious Site · Historic Site
Given that its construction took two centuries, it only makes sense that New Cathedral (Catedral Nueva) displays two distinct architectural styles: late Gothic and Baroque. Ferdinand V commissioned this cathedral to blend with the more decidedly Gothic Old Cathedral in Salamanca. Look around for cracks resulting from the Lisbon earthquake of 1755. Be sure to walk around the interior roof balcony.
