Royal Palace of Madrid, Madrid

4.5
Explore at least a few of the 2,000 lavishly decorated rooms of the historic Royal Palace of Madrid, considered one of the finest buildings in the city. Take the grand stairway to discover the state rooms, noted for their detailed tapestries, frescoes, porcelain, carvings, china, and silverware. The courtyard connects to both the old pharmacy, which holds hundreds of bottles of centuries-old medicines, and the royal armory, a two-level exhibit of medieval weapons and armor. Although the enormous palace is the official residence of the King, the royal family doesn’t actually live here; the site is generally used for state ceremonies. Avoid visiting on Wednesdays, when entry is free and the lines are extremely long. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Madrid holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Royal Palace of Madrid and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • ... a beautiful royal palace typical of the time and above all very well kept inside and very well cared for that from the idea of life over the centuries within the Palace of the Kings of Spain ... many rooms are worth a visit from the staircase gradually all the rooms adorned with special wallpapers all themed with the armchairs and the rest of the upholstery ... Many rooms have special features and spectacular appears the huge lounge with the table prepared all over the place where the banquets were set up and where later the dances were held ... It is advisable to book before leaving and buy tickets online also because there is no surcharge ... Also advisable the audio guide that explains gradually the various steps ... useless to describe all environments there is so much on the internet where they are depicted and described in all sauces ... the key thing is to try to get a ticket on schedule not very advanced as queues are formed even for those who have booked tickets ... To access the apartments you need to leave backpacks or large bags inside the appropriate lockers located before climbing the monumental staircase and you need to have a small coin because it is necessary to insert inside the locker 1 and you need to find the free locker ... there is no way to pass except by depositing the backpacks ...

  • Nice Place. I watched the exchange of the guard at noon. For internal participants there is a need for scheduling. Don't miss the catadral.

  • 10 euros per person with children under 5 going free. Yes it is free for the last couple of hours in the day but the queues go on for miles and my holiday time is too precious for the time in the queues. Some wonderful opulent rooms in the palace. The throne room was my favourite with the 2 thrones surrounded by golden lions. Example of some of the finest works in Europe in each of the palaces rooms. The most extravagant place I have ever visited. Well worth the visit I will never forget my trip hear.
  • Beautiful palace and so so opulent! It was interesting to learn all about the history of the various monarchy that lived in the palace. The armoury is a treat for the little ones. Staff were friendly and super helpful. Getting the audio guide for €3 was worth it. They do not allow photo taking of most of the exhibits though, so do take note of that.
