Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Castile and Leon / Province of Burgos / Burgos / Monasterio de las Huelgas
At Monasterio de las Huelgas, see where Spanish kings would retreat to relax. See tombs of royalty, a breathtaking altar with a statue of Jesus being taken off the cross, and many impressive halls. Most popular with visitors is the cloister featuring royal clothing and bejeweled robes. To explore the interior of the monastery, you must take a guided tour. Tours are usually given in Spanish, so if you can’t understand the language and still want to learn, consider researching the site ahead of time. It is the story of the most powerful medieval women on the peninsula... and so far I want to count. The rest must be enjoyed personally.
You can only visit this place on a guided tour that lasts about 1 hour. The problem with this is that the guide only communicates in Spanish, so unless you are fluent in Spanish you have no idea what you are looking at which is a great shame because the place is full of history, they should take note how well the cathedral organise the visits there which are excellent in in every language
What a wonderful place to visit - it is worth the effort to head around 1 mile west of the city centre to see this amazing monastery and the tombs of Castillian monarchs.
