Scenic and encapsulating views of the Franschhoek Valley define the drive through Franschhoek Pass. Said to have been used by elephants to cross from one valley to the other, the pass was formally built in 1822. The road follows the northern edge of the Franschhoek mountain range, overlooking the verdant valley and offering picturesque mountain views. The paved road includes sharp curves and some visitors may be nervous along the edge.
