Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg), Piran

4.6
Sitting close to the water's edge, paved with white marble and surrounded by elegant 19th-century buildings, Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg) serves as the largest square in town and a hub of activity. The square was part of the harbor until 1894, when it was filled in and mounted with a statue of violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, after whom the square is named. Most of the buildings are older than the square itself; be sure to look for the Gothic house, the only building that has preserved its original exterior. The square's distinctive oval shape comes from the time when it served as an electric railway station; today it's a pedestrianized zone. Relax with a beer, have a bite of pizza or pastry at one of the outdoor cafes, and watch the locals go about their daily lives. • The Tartini square you see immediately when you arrive from the port. It is a very nice and cozy square with in the middle the statue of Tartini. The facades in all directions are beautiful. There are also nice terraces.

  • One of the most lively places in beautiful town of Piran! Many nice cafes arround the square and lots of people performing different sport activities in the middle!
  • Charming, historic square in the heart of the medieval walled town of Piran. It’s also very well laid out with nice views back up into the hills as well as out to the Adriatic Sea. In the square you can find a bronze statue of a famous violinist and composer Guiseppe Tartini, a few tempting seafood restaurants and lovely cafes, and some nice shops selling local produce. The square is a central point for meeting in Piran and everyone just seems to be having a great time here. The square is traffic free and there are plenty of benches to take a rest, regular street artists and performers, so it’s really the ideal place to sit and watch the world go by. It’s very atmospheric and romantic and a much photographed area. Free buses take visitors back and forth to the car parks as cars are not allowed within the square.
