Trip Planner: Europe / Slovenia / Slovenian Littoral Region / Slovenian Istria / Piran / Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg)
Sitting close to the water's edge, paved with white marble and surrounded by elegant 19th-century buildings, Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg) serves as the largest square in town and a hub of activity. The square was part of the harbor until 1894, when it was filled in and mounted with a statue of violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, after whom the square is named. Most of the buildings are older than the square itself; be sure to look for the Gothic house, the only building that has preserved its original exterior. The square's distinctive oval shape comes from the time when it served as an electric railway station; today it's a pedestrianized zone. Relax with a beer, have a bite of pizza or pastry at one of the outdoor cafes, and watch the locals go about their daily lives. This is definitely the best place in Piran. You will end up here almost no matter what you do around. This square is charming and full of life. With many bars around, a nice view and also a view of the sea from the other side, is one place you have to visit and stay a while to enjoy. Sit around the square and watch people pass by, it's very entertaining too.
Lovely square surrounded by the beauty of Pirano. As you arrive the church will dominate the square and the bell tower will look huge. In the middle a beautiful statue of the musician Tartini is displayed. The little harbour is just nearby. Important to remember, you can get the bus that will gave you a ride to the parking from here. In fact if you arrive in the city by car, you have to park outside the little city in one of the parkings that you will find.
