A Renaissance building constructed between 1580 and 1603 along the southern part of the city walls, Celje Regional Museum sits on the very spot where administrative and agricultural buildings of the Celje Lower Castle had been previously erected. During refurbishment in 1926, the renowned "Celje Ceiling" was found there. An open-air lapidarium can be found behind it.

    Very nice museum good combination of old artifacts and a modern design. The remains of the Roman fundements underneath the museum are very nice. Gives a good impression of the old history of Celje.

    Lovely museum. I really enjoyed the temporary exhibition they had about Alma M. Karlin, a woman born in Celje in the 1800s who traveled the world solo. Very interesting.
