Waterfall Savica, Bohinjsko Jezero

#2 of 18 in Things to do in Bohinjsko Jezero
Bursting from the underground of the Seven Triglav Lakes Valley and cutting deep into the gorge, Waterfall Savica is the most famous Slovenian waterfall. It cascades from a height of 78 m (256 ft) over two slopes forming the shape of the letter A. The water fills a pool artificially supported by a small dam. Cross the stone bridge over the Mala Savica and walk above the gorge through meadows and woods. A little cabin-like house at the top offers views of the waterfall and the lake. Bring a raincoat if you want to get really close to the waterfall to avoid getting drenched by the spray. • If you will definitely not forget to visit this waterfall at the Bohijna Lake. You will see a piece of beautiful nature and a magnificent waterfall. At the time of our visit, therefore, after the rains really overwhelming. We got on the tour and so we were lucky that we were at the 8:20 completely alone. The second plus was that it was free, because at the entrance to the road to the waterfall, so soon no one has levied a fee, which is otherwise 3 euros per person. Furthermore, there is no point in describing wanting to see and experience it.

  • It is not to be understood as a mountain trip, either for the short duration, or because once you finish the route you arrive at the gate overlooking the waterfalls and there is no way to sit on a lawn for a picnic or continue on other paths. Nice view anyway. I recommend pairing it with a walk around the lake. In Slovenia you pay everywhere parking lots and here also the entrance, from us walks in the mountains are free...

  • Great walk to a lovely waterfall. The guide at the booth mentioned a cafe 20 minutes away, half way round the walk, only attempt this if you're well equipped footwear wise! It's all up hill and hard work underfoot, the views were worth once at the top though!
  • Far less impressive than the promotional material suggests, at least the part that is visible from the public path. Looks like there used to be some kind of fortress right under the waterfall, a bit of information about this would have been nice, but we get nothing. The walk up there is nice though, with a few places to rest or have lunch while enjoying a view of the surrounding mountains or forest. Entrance is paid, 3 euros which are used to maintain the park, perfectly fine of course. Unfortunately they should also invest a bit in keeping the public restroom near the entrance a bit more clean, it's all dirty and smelly.
